The big news at start of 2025 is about The Coconut Latitudes’ “sibling” book Una Niñez Entre Palmeras (the Spanish language version published in 2023 by Books&Smith.) I’m delighted to report that it recently became a Silver Medal Winner at the 2024 International Latino Book Awards in Los Angeles, CA, and will soon be available as an e-book (Kindle) in 2025. All this follows its international debut in 2023 in two events in the Dominican Republic. First, a presentation at Santo Domingo’s 25th International Book Fair, followed by a home-town celebration in Miches, where most of the story takes place, and where I was awarded special recognition for the memoir’s contribution to local history.
In other news: She Writes Press (publisher of The Coconut Latitudes) is now being distributed by the internationally known publishing house of Simon & Schuster, which further extends the reach of all the SWP imprints. This means readers can now order their favorite SWP books (including The Coconut Latitudes) from Simon & Schuster as well as Bookshop.org, in addition to Amazon or your favorite indie bookstore. And, lastly, I’m grateful to know The Coconut Latitudes continues to find new readers, even after its 10th anniversary of being published by She Writes Press – guess it has “legs”!
